As many of you may have predicted, the Dundalk Razorbacks have ceased
operation.
This is due to a number of factors:
- Of the panel of 5 that originally started the organisation, only Thomas
O'Brien still lives in Dundalk.
- Jonathan Daly now lives in Copenhagen.
- Cathal Myles now lives in Carrick-on-Shannon
- Stephen Murphy now lives in Williamsburg, Virginia
- Kenneth Ross now lives in Blanchardstown.
- The head of college sports in DKIT (Brendan Johnson) cut our funding from
the students union because American Football is not an official sport in
Institutes of Technology in Ireland.
- There was a considerable decrease in interest as the year went on. We held
6 or 7 training sessions in the Easter semester and the numbers seriously
depleted from week to week. Many of those who were interested were
representatives from the military, and they completed their courses last
year.
- The lack of interest was further proved when we could not find other
people to try and carry on the sport after we left college.
On behalf of the Dundalk Razorbacks AFC, we would like to thank the IAFL for
all the help that you have given us in an attempt to establish this great game
in Dundalk. We would also like to thank representatives from the other teams in
the country, especially Chris in Belfast, Paul in Carrickfergus and Al in Dublin
for all their help.
We understand that the league went through troubles regarding its committee a
few years ago but I must commend Doug, Steve and Cillian on a very well run unit
that shows great potential for the future. We are very excited about the
reviving of the national team and are greatly encouraged by the impressive
results in the Charleroi Tournament.
We will of course return the gear that was loaned to us by the league. To
arrange collection details, you may contact Thomas O'Brien at ktf81@hotmail.com
or ktf@campus.ie or on 087-2283568.
Thanking you for all your help
and best if luck in the future.
Jonathan Daly,
